Plantar fasciitis is a common foot condition that causes pain in the heel and bottom of the foot. It happens when the thick band of tissue that runs across the bottom of your foot, called the plantar fascia, becomes inflamed or irritated. This tissue supports the arch of your foot and helps you walk, but overuse or stress can cause tiny tears and lead to pain.
Several factors can contribute to plantar fasciitis, including wearing shoes with poor support, being overweight or having a job that requires a lot of walking or standing on hard surfaces. Even activities like running or dancing can increase the risk.
The most noticeable symptom of plantar fasciitis is a sharp, stabbing pain in the heel, especially when you take your first steps in the morning or after sitting for a long time. The pain might lessen as you move around but can return after long periods of standing or after exercise.
Heel pain can be a significant problem, affecting your daily activities and quality of life. For instance, getting out of bed without experiencing intense pain the minute you stand up can cause extreme fear and anxiety.
Activities like walking the dog or going for a long walk may be cut short due to pain, diminishing your enjoyment of getting exercise. Even simple tasks, like deciding whether or not to get out of your chair in the evening to make a cup of tea, become difficult because you know your foot will hurt for the next 10 minutes.
Recognising these symptoms early and seeking appropriate treatment can help manage the condition and improve your quality of life.

At Active Motion Injury Clinic, we take a unique approach to treating Plantar Fasciitis:
Step 1
We assess your feet to ensure we learn as much as possible about your symptoms and combine this information with your description of the symptoms.
Step 2
We create an individualised treatment plan. This is tailored to your specific symptoms. Your treatment plan will include advice that we believe will significantly help you to manage your pain.
Step 3
We start your treatment plan with a combination of hands-on treatment (specifically to the calf and arch of the foot). Next, we provide you with the right exercises in relation to your symptoms to ensure we make progress between sessions.
All of these steps take place in your first session with us.
