Strength, Mobility and Active Ageing for the Over-50s Portsmouth and Eastleigh

Active Motion Injury Clinic specialises in helping people aged 45 and over stay strong, mobile, and independent, without relying on painkillers, injections, or the endless cycle of rest-and-return that leaves most people no better off than when they started.
We work with people who want to keep walking, running, gardening, golfing, and playing with their grandchildren well into their 60s, 70s, and beyond.

Why Strength Training Changes Everything After 50?

Most people are told to stay active and go for walks when they experience pain or reduced mobility. Walking is valuable, but research consistently shows that structured resistance training produces significantly better outcomes for strength, balance, bone density, and independence in older adults.
A peer-reviewed study comparing resistance circuit training and walking in older women found that resistance training produced substantially greater improvements in muscle strength, functional capacity, and quality of movement (Balachandran et al., 2022, BMC Geriatrics; PMC9319797).

The implications are clear. If you want to stay independent and pain-free in later life, building and maintaining muscle mass is essential. At Active Motion, we make that practical, achievable, and safe, regardless of your current fitness level or health history.

Over 50's FAQs

Is resistance training safe for older adults?
Yes, when appropriately programmed and supervised. Research consistently shows resistance training is safe and beneficial for adults of all ages, including those with osteoporosis, arthritis, and other health conditions. Our team has extensive experience working with older adults and will progress your programme at the right pace for you.

I have not exercised in years. Can I still start?
Absolutely. Many of our most remarkable recoveries have involved people who had not exercised for years. We meet you exactly where you are and build from there.

Is walking not enough to stay fit as I get older?
Walking is beneficial for cardiovascular health and mood, but it does not build muscle mass, improve bone density, or develop the strength and balance needed to prevent falls and maintain independence. Combining walking with structured strength work gives you far better long-term outcomes.

What if I have arthritis or a joint replacement?
Both are conditions we work with regularly. In many cases targeted strength training reduces joint pain and improves function in arthritic joints. We will work alongside your medical team if needed and programme appropriately for your situation.

How much does the Strength Programme Cost?
We offer a FREE consultation to ensure that we can help you. After hearing more about what you are currently suffering with and answering any questions you may have. A qualified practitioner will put together a tailored plan for you. The Cost is dependent on the level of support and structure you require as part of your programme.

I am eighty years old and suffer with arthritis limited movement with my right arm. I have had this for the past ten years. I started treatment with Jordan and he has managed to reduce my pain killing medication to zero. I am now getting considerable movement with my right arm. I am still undergoing treatment but with the way that I have progressed so far and reduction in medication the treatment and cost has been well worth every penny.

I started seeing Jordan in 2023 when I was struggling to deal with severe hip pain. His hands-on approach, clear explanations, and recommendations for exercises made the difference between barely being able to tolerate sitting and moving about, and returning to a life of mobility. What a difference! When I was scheduled for a hip replacement, he helped me to focus on strengthening the muscles before surgery. After surgery, the guidance and exercises he gave me improved my recovery far beyond the minimal help I'd received in hospital. I highly recommend him and the hand-picked, personally-trained team he has assembled in both Portsmouth and Eastleigh. I booked in for a sports massage with Millie who really got to work on my glutes and lower back muscles. It was all over clothes so no embarrassment or feeling exposed and after the first one hour session, and a few days recovery as my body adjusted to all the deep massage points, I felt like a new woman and almost no pain and much more mobile. I had another session one month later to continue to work on those areas and again, she was friendly, professional, listened to when I asked for firmer pressure, starting in a less tight area or giving me a minute’s break. The pain is 90% gone even after a month of no treatment and after just two sessions and I am much more able to stand, walk and do other activities. I can’t recommend her enough! Thanks Millie!
